An empty room with some large antiques from Holland was where the clients lived before moving back to this country. They wanted a traditional look, and although the rooms in this town house were small, the ceilings were 10 feet high. The challenge was to balance large scale furniture and heavy antiques in a small space. I chose the new Henredon sofa and Marge Carson chairs and bunching cocktail tables, selecting the fabrics and wood finishes with gorgeous gold edging to create a slightly baroque, “old world” European feel. The silk draperies I designed were paneled and pleated and fairly simple so as not to compete with the rest of the room. After that, accessorizing was easy!
